How our UK operation differs from our French business is that we’re also supplying the trade with sales to Hotels, Restaurants, Wine Bars, Wedding & Events Organisers and Concierge services.
In France more than 50% of champagnes sold are “artisan” small producer champagnes, they understand the passion invested by the lesser known champagne makers but in the UK they represent only 2% because the Brits generally buy the grande marques from supermarkets and don’t have the choice of the excellent champagnes made by growers.

Champagne Cuperly have recently moved into their new and very impressive headquarters in Prunay just outside Reims on the road to Sainte Menehould not far from us here at the Manoir. Yesterday I visited their modern, eclectic, inviting new purpose built premises that boasts the ability to produce all their champagne from pressing the grapes to a machine that puts cases of champagne, perfectly configured to be stacked onto palettes. Every bottle can be tracked back to it’s conception, the grapes, disgorgement, area stored and aged, every detail of every bottle is kept on a database and ultimately each number of every bottle is included on their customer invoices. Completely transparent production. I’ve been lucky enough to visit many Champagne producers but this is on an entirely different level.
After my extensive and informative tour I enjoyed an excellent glass of Champagne Cuperly Cuvée Prestige Blanc de Blancs Brut Grand Cru.
Champagne Cuperly have managed to seamlessly combine technology with the artisan values including using oak barrels for their wines that make for an excellent non “mass produced” approach to their range of fine Champagnes.

About the Champagne Masters
The Champagne Masters is a competition conceived and managed by the drinks business and an extension of its successful Masters series for spirits. The competition is exclusively for Champagne and in 2011, the first year of the Champagne Masters, almost 100 entries were judged by a selection of highly experienced tasters using Riedel Chianti/Riesling glasses supplied by Sensible Wine Services (see above for the list of judges). The top Champagnes were awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze medals according to their result, and those Champagnes that stood out as being outstanding received the ultimate accolade – the title of Champagne Master. The Champagnes were tasted over the course of one day at the Institute of Masters of Wine’s offices in Fitzroy Square, London, W1.
