production: Founded in 1807 in a small village, Ludes on the Mountain of

Canard-Duchêne was founded in 1868 in Ludes, a small village in the
Montagne de Reims. By 1890 Canard-Duchêne had penetrated the closed
circle of the suppliers to the Court of Tsar Nicholas II, hence the two-headed
eagle, emblem of the Russian Imperial family. Canard-Duchêne is now owned
and run by Alain Thienot whose drive for excellence has given this
long-established Champagne house a new impetus.
Tasting notes: Attractive pale gold in
appearance, Grande Cuvée des Lys Charles VII is an extremely refined
Champagne, exuding pure white fruit aromas of pear or lychee on the nose, which
give way in the glass to pastry cream notes. Creamy and silky on the palate,
this Champagne is ideal for a truly memorable aperitif or to accompany a
gastronomic starter such as foie gras.
Varietals: Grande
Cuvée des Lys Charles VII is crafted entirely from Chardonnay grapes,
sourced in the prestigious Cru vineyards, such as Avize or Trépail.
Reserve wines make up at least 20% of the blend. Dosage: around
8g/litre..
